Hjc’s P2P Boot Camp
Last week, hjc and Beyond hosted a Peer-to-Peer Boot Camp in Los Angeles. Keynote speaker Amy Milne (former Director of Events at Sick Kids Foundation and Canadian Cancer Society, and co-founder of Beyond,) led the Boot Camp. The event had special guest panelists Michael Johnston, president of hjc; as well as executives from Hirschberg Foundation, City of Hope, and Children’s Hospital LA.
The day sparked the opportunity to share learnings around peer-to-peer fundraising events. From best practices, success and challenges, looking at post-event initiatives, and bolstering retention and revenue.
During the breakout sessions, the Boot Camp looked at three important areas when implementing an event:
1. Event Fundraising
2. DIY Fundraising
3. Recruitment and Coaching
Case studies from the panelists were shared, providing key learnings from their trademark events. A key theme for the day focused on charities and non-profits being fundraisers and not just event organizers, and how to keep that focus at the foundation of all activities being implemented.
The overwhelming response of the Boot Camp has led to two additional events, the first taking place on October 21st, at the P2P Forum (for more details: http://startingbeyond.com/) and the second a follow up to the LA Workshop in January 2016.
