President’s Message

If you listen to the comedian, Louis C.K. talk about twitter during Conan, you’ll get a quick and visceral understanding of the general criticism of digital media—social media more specifically. There are a lot of us in the nonprofit digital space who don’t flinch from the limitations of the online environment and don’t shy away from social media because of the criticism. And, rightfully so.

We know that there is one place where the digital environment is making a huge, positive difference in fundraising and that’s in pledge events. Whether it’s the proven value of social media in increasing reach, and therefore funds raised by each event participant or the larger gift amount given by each donor through the online environment, we know digital and events are great partners – even considering Louis C.K.’s comments about twitter.
