Carry The Load | Memorial May

PROJECT

Luminate Online | Peer-to-Peer Fundraising | Blueprint TeamRaiser

Client

Carry The Load is a U.S. nonprofit that connects Americans to the sacrifices made by military members, veterans, first responders and their families. Founded in 2011 by veteran U.S. Navy SEALs, the organization brings people together through remembrance, fundraising and community events.

The Challenge

In early 2026, Carry The Load approached hjc for support in rebuilding the TeamRaiser experience for Memorial May, its nationwide series of events honouring military members, first responders and their families.

With nearly 100 communities participating across the United States, Carry The Load needed a peer-to-peer fundraising experience that could support numerous individual events while providing participants with a consistent, modern and easy-to-use experience.

The existing TeamRaiser also needed to better reflect the look and feel of Carry The Load’s newly launched website, with an improved experience across desktop and mobile devices.

Our Approach

hjc redesigned the Memorial May TeamRaiser experience, beginning with prototypes of the key pages. The goal was to move away from the previous static design and create a cleaner, more modern and mobile-responsive experience that aligned with Carry The Load’s new website.

A Blueprint TeamRaiser was developed to establish the overall design and functionality. Once finalized with the client, the blueprint was used to create individual child events for Memorial May locations across the country.

The new experience included:

All Locations Page

  • Created event tiles organized by date for desktop users.
  • Developed an accordion-style event display for mobile devices.
  • Added filtering by state and date on desktop.
  • Added state filtering and a reset option for mobile users.
  • Built the page to respond across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.

Memorial May Homepage

  • Created a central campaign homepage that brings together activity from participating events across the country.
  • Displayed overall fundraising progress.
  • Pulled in top teams and participants across all participating events.
  • Added search functionality for participants and teams.
  • Included company listings to make it easier to find participating organizations.

Individual Event Pages

Using the Blueprint TeamRaiser, hjc created child events for individual Memorial May locations while maintaining a consistent design, structure and participant experience across the national campaign.

This approach allowed Carry The Load to manage a large number of individual events within a common framework while still supporting the needs of each location.

Company Pages

Company pages were formatted to maintain Carry The Load’s branding and provide a consistent experience as participants moved between campaign, event and company pages.

Client Guides

To make ongoing management easier for the Carry The Load team, hjc also developed guides explaining how staff could:

  • Update event tiles on the All Locations page.
  • Add and manage sponsors on the sponsor page.
The Result

Carry The Load launched a refreshed Memorial May TeamRaiser experience that brings its nationwide events together within a consistent peer-to-peer fundraising platform.

The new structure provides a modern, responsive experience for participants while giving Carry The Load a scalable framework for managing individual events across the country. The Blueprint TeamRaiser approach also makes it easier to maintain consistency as events are created and updated.
